Don't know your characters, but what if ...
Mom watching t.v. Voice over: of t.v. announcer. News of day. Gradually the news stories begin to include news of the mom's day! the audience hears and doesn't see the screen but realizes it's a hallucination.
If too subtle what if ... husband enters, puzzled at wife on couch smiling. Voice over continues, while husband picks up the tv cord. Not connected! "What are you doing?" Watching tv." "Unplugged?" "(enigmatic smile) I get better reception."
