I think Orange County (and of course SCR) does give a false impression. Most film professionals live in the Los Angeles area and are loathe to travel all the way below the Orange Curtain for sustained roles. There are any number of Los Angeles area theatres that produce star vehicles for film actors. The Los Angeles times Calendar section is chock full.
Such plays do make money for the companies due to the star power. I wish that I could find just one "name" to do a script of mine!
Then I'd write screenplays and move to Los Angeles.
